American Foreign Service Association Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by American Foreign Service Association
Overview
The AFSA Scholarship Program provides college assistance for children of AFSA members whose parent(s) are current or former Foreign Service employees. Awards include need-based financial scholarships for undergraduate students and merit-based prizes — academic and art awards plus a community service award — specifically for graduating high school seniors.
Funding and history
The program is supported entirely by gifts and bequests from the Foreign Service community; AFSA membership dues are not used to fund scholarships. Since its inception, AFSA has awarded nearly $7.4 million in scholarships to more than 3,000 young people.
Eligibility
- You must be the child of a parent who is or was a Foreign Service employee and who is (or was) a member of the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA). Applicants and the AFSA-member parent are responsible for confirming that the parent’s AFSA membership is active and does not lapse.
- Applicants must satisfy the specific requirements for the Financial Aid and/or Merit scholarship categories for which they apply.
