Foundation for Science and Disability Scholarship Grant Program
Scholarship Sponsored by Foundation for Science and Disability
Purpose The Foundation for Science and Disability (FSD) seeks to expand participation in scientific fields by students with disabilities. To support this mission, FSD maintains a Science Student Grant Fund that provides targeted financial assistance for students pursuing graduate-level science study or research. Who may apply Eligible applicants are either: - Fourth-year undergraduate students who have already been accepted into a graduate or professional program, or - Current graduate students. In all cases applicants must have a disability and be United States citizens. Award recipients must be entering or continuing a graduate degree program in one of these disciplines: Mathematics, Science, Medicine, Engineering, or Computer Science. Award purpose and amount FSD will award $1,000 grants to qualified college or university students. Funds are intended for a specific need related to a science project or thesis in the permitted fields. Typical uses include, but are not limited to: - Purchase of an assistive device or specialized instrument, - Financial support to collaborate with a faculty mentor on an individual research project, - Other discrete research-related expenses necessary to carry out academic work. Application materials and requirements Applicants must submit a complete packet that includes: 1) A fully completed application form. 2) Official college and/or university transcript(s) (copies accepted as specified on the form). 3) A letter of support from your research or academic advisor addressing your request. 4) A second recommendation letter from another faculty member. 5) Proof of U.S. citizenship (for example, passport or birth certificate). Essay Include an approximately 250-word essay describing your professional goals and objectives and specifying exactly how the grant money would be used to support your research, project, or educational needs. Additional notes Because relatively few funding opportunities exist specifically for disabled students pursuing graduate degrees in science, FSD limits this award to those who are entering or continuing graduate study in the fields listed above. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
