Eligibility
- Candidates must be pursuing a major in floriculture, horticulture, or a closely related agricultural science.
- Applicants are required to have been residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for at least one year prior to the date they submit their application.
- All completed applications must be received by May 15 of the year in which the award is to be granted.
Award details
- The scholarship is paid at $1,500 per year, for as many as four years (maximum award $6,000), contingent on continued eligibility and successful completion of semesters.
- Awards are prorated by the number of years/semesters completed: one-year (two semesters) = $1,500; two-year = $3,000; three-year = $4,500; four-year = $6,000.
- The first installment is released after the recipient completes the first semester of study (typically in January). The scholar must submit a copy of their first-semester transcript to the Massachusetts Flower Growers’ Association Scholarship Committee to receive this payment.
- Subsequent annual payments will be made after receipt of each required transcript at the same time each year, continuing until the scholarship term is complete or the maximum award is reached, provided the recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements.
Termination/disqualification
A recipient’s scholarship may be terminated if any of the following occur:
- The student fails to complete the required semesters.
- The student discontinues studies in floriculture, horticulture, or a related agricultural science, as determined by the Scholarship Committee.
- The student’s cumulative grade point average falls below 2.5.
