Intended Recipient
- A full-time undergraduate student pursuing aviation-oriented studies at a school that's part of NBAA/UAA
- An individual at least in their sophomore year
- A student with a minimum GPA of 3.0
Scholarship Amount: At least $1,000 to be used for educational expenses

Additional Criteria
The application package should include:

- one essay
- one academic transcript
- one resume
- one recommendation letter from the University's Aviation Department
Applications should reach NBAA Charities no later than August 11, 2025 to be eligible for the scholarship.
Recipients should utilize the scholarship funds by Dec. 31, 2026, or they may lose the award.
Every year, through the UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship, NBAA Charities grants a minimum of $1,000 to up to five undergraduates enrolled in aviation courses at institutions that are members of NBAA and University Aviation Association (UAA).
The scholarship memorializes the late Janice K. Barden, a significant figure in the aviation community, who stood as the chair of the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition Local Committee eight times, a record in NBAA history.
The scholarship is granted for one academic year, with checks written out to the school. Awards are given to U.S. citizens or permanent residents without bias towards gender, race, religion, or nationality. Scholarship funds must be used by the end of the academic year or the award may be forfeited
UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship
- The applicant should be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
- The applicant should be a full-time undergraduate student (sophomore or higher) enrolled in an aviation-related program at an NBAA/UAA-member institution (refer to the provided list). Your department head or advisor can provide your institution’s UAA membership number; the application is not complete without this number. Proof of enrollment or acceptance of enrollment must be provided before award distribution.
- The applicant should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above (out of 4.0).
- Complete and sign the entire application form.
- Write a 250-word, typed, double-spaced essay on a separate sheet delineating your interest in and aspirations for a career in business aviation. Your typed name should be at the top of the page.
- Provide an official transcript issued by the school, or a transcript copy.
- Submit a current one-page resume that includes your permanent home address.
- Provide a recommendation letter from a faculty member of the aviation department at your current institution.
- The completed application package, which includes the form, one essay, one transcript, one resume and one letter of recommendation, should reach NBAA Charities no later than August 11, 2025 to be eligible for the scholarship.
