Prospective Secondary Math Scholarship

Intro/Purpose
This scholarship provides financial assistance to college or university students preparing to become secondary school mathematics teachers (grades 7–12).

Award Details

- Maximum amount: Up to $10,000 per recipient

Who may apply
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Currently finishing their sophomore year of undergraduate study and plan to enroll as a full‑time student at a four‑ or five‑year college or university in the upcoming academic year with the intention of becoming a certified 7–12 secondary mathematics teacher. Applicants who will be entering a full‑time graduate program with the same certification goal are also eligible.
- Maintain a minimum college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Not already be an awardee of any other Mathematics Education Trust‑administered award during the same academic year (an individual may receive only one such award in a single academic year).
- Not be a previous recipient of the Texas Instruments Demana‑Waits Scholarship.
- Not be an employee of, or an immediate family member of an employee of, either the Educational and Productivity Solutions business segment of Texas Instruments or the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Tax information
Scholarship payments may be taxable or non‑taxable under IRS rules. Recipients are responsible for reporting any taxable portion and paying any applicable taxes. See IRS Publication 970, “Tax Benefits for Education,” or consult a tax professional for guidance.
