ASHRAE High School Senior Scholarships

Overview
Each year four one‑year scholarships of $3,000 are awarded for the academic year following the application deadline, beginning with the fall semester. Awards are intended for high school seniors who will enroll full‑time in their first year of a bachelor’s degree program in pre‑engineering, engineering, or engineering technology that is traditionally a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R field.
Eligibility
- Must be a high school senior entering full‑time into the first year of a bachelor’s program in pre‑engineering, engineering, or engineering technology (a curriculum typically preparing students for careers in HVAC&R).
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and/or class ranking in the top 30% (or better).
- Must have been accepted to a post‑secondary program that satisfies at least one of the institutional/program criteria listed below.
Acceptable programs/institutions (applicant’s program must meet one or more)
- The school maintains a recognized ASHRAE student branch.
- The program is accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) — see www.abet.org — or by PAHRA (Partnership for Air‑Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation).
- The program is accredited by an agency outside the United States that is a signatory to the Washington Accord or the Sydney Accord.
- The program is accredited by an agency that has a signed Memorandum of Understanding with ABET.

Application requirements and submission instructions
All application materials must be received on or before May 1 to be considered. Required documents include:
1. Official transcript of grades — must be sent either by postal mail, through an authorized electronic transcript service, or transmitted directly by your registrar’s office. Photocopies or student‑issued copies are not acceptable.
2. Letter of admission/acceptance to the post‑secondary institution you will attend.
3. Three signed letters of recommendation:
- One from an instructor or school advisor,
- One from a current or former employer,
- One from another character reference (not a family member).
Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.
