Alabama Academic Elite Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by University of Alabama
To be considered for the Academic Elite Scholarships, a student must be accepted as a member of the Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program (formerly known as the University Fellows Experience). The student must maintain membership in the UFE to continue holding an Academic Elite Scholarship. Complete information on UFE can be found on the Witt University Fellows website. There are a total of eight academic elite scholars named each year. The pool of eligible applicants typically exceeds 1,000 students. These scholarships are awarded for four years.
Seven Academic Elite Scholarship recipients will receive:
- Tuition for four years
- One year of on-campus housing at regular room rate**
- $9,000 per year undergraduate supplemental scholarship for four years*
The top Academic Elite Scholarship recipient will receive:
- Tuition for four years
- One year of on-campus housing at regular room rate**
- $9,000 undergraduate supplemental scholarship for the first year*
- $19,000 per year undergraduate supplemental scholarship for years 2-4*
- One-time undergraduate allowance of $5,000 for use in research or international study (after completing one year of study at UA)
Please note, students awarded an Academic Elite Scholarship cannot combine this award with any previously awarded merit scholarship or scholarship package. The student will receive the higher scholarship package.
*The value of institutional scholarship funds, or the combination of institutional scholarships with the faculty/staff Educational Benefit may not exceed the costs outlined on the Student Financial Aid Cost of Attendance webpage. This does not affect any outside sources of aid such as veteran benefits, PACT, external agency and scholarships, privately funded scholarships, federal grants and loans.
**Regular room rate is defined as the largest room option in a particular dorm. Example: Riverside, Lakeside and Ridgecrest have four-person suites. The cost associated with the four-person suite would be the value of the housing scholarship in this circumstance. If you live in an alternative dorm where double room occupancy is the largest available option, then the cost associated with the double room would be the value of the housing scholarship.
