Overview
These eligibility rules apply to applicants for the general program and for the KWVD-specific award. All applicants must meet the enrollment, academic, and financial-need requirements listed below. The KWVD award carries an additional heritage requirement related to the Korean War.
General Eligibility
- Heritage: Applicants must have Korean heritage — for example, at least one parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent of Korean origin, or be an individual adopted from Korea.
- Enrollment: You must be enrolled full time at an accredited school located in one of the Southern region states specified for this program (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, or Tennessee) for the entire 2025–2026 academic year.
- Academics: A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required.
- Financial need: Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need in order to qualify.
KWVD Scholarship Additional Requirement
In addition to the general eligibility above, applicants for the KWVD Scholarship must meet the following heritage condition:
- Direct descendant of a Korean War veteran who served in Korea during the Korean War Era — specifically between June 25, 1950 and January 31, 1955 (as defined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs).
Applicant Classification for 2025–2026
Your application should be submitted under the category that reflects your status for the 2025–2026 school year:
- High school sophomore, junior, or senior
- High school senior planning to begin college in the 2025–2026 academic year
- College freshman, sophomore, or junior
- College senior
- Graduate student
