Hach Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Scholarship

Purpose
This scholarship supports recent college graduates and graduate students who have limited professional experience and who plan to become high school chemistry teachers.
Program overview
The ACS-Hach Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Scholarship is awarded to individuals with a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in chemistry or a chemistry-related field who intend to enter secondary chemistry teaching. Awardees must be enrolled in—or already accepted to—a master’s program in education or a teacher certification program for chemistry/science.
What recipients receive
- Stipend: Up to $6,000 per year for full-time study or up to $3,000 per year for part-time study.
- Ongoing support and mentoring during the required three-year teaching commitment.
Stipend use and renewal
- Funds may be used for tuition, books, room and board, and other education-related costs.
- Awards are renewable for up to three years total.
- Stipends cannot be used retroactively for prior expenses.

- Application opens: February 1, 2026
- Application deadline: May 1, 2026 (applications must be submitted by this date to be considered for the 2026–2027 academic year)
- Applicant decision notification: July 19, 2026
Eligibility requirements
To qualify you must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry or a chemistry-related discipline.
- Have less than one year of work experience outside of obtaining undergraduate and graduate degrees.
- Demonstrate commitment to becoming a secondary (high school) educator.
- Be accepted to (or enrolled in) a master’s in education program or a teacher certification program for secondary chemistry/science.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
Acceptable chemistry-related fields
Applicants with degrees in the following (and similar chemistry-based) areas are eligible:
- Agricultural Chemistry
- Biochemistry
- Ceramic Science / Chemistry / Technology
- Chemical Engineering
- Chemical Technology
- Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering (must be chemistry-focused)
- Forensic Science / Chemistry
- Food Science (excluding Nutrition)
- Industrial Chemistry
- Materials Science or Petroleum Engineering
- Nanotechnology / Nanoscience
- Paper and Pulp Technology
- Toxicology
