Introduction
The FMC Skaters Scholarship was established in 1993 to offer financial support to ice-sport athletes and recreational skaters who show outstanding character and achievement both on and off the ice. Awards are presented each June to participants in ice hockey, figure skating, and recreational skating.
Who is eligible
- High school seniors only.
- Must be a New England resident.
- Must actively skate at an FMC arena.
Selection criteria
A review committee chooses recipients based on:
- Academic record,
- Involvement in extracurricular and community activities,
- On-ice accomplishments and leadership.
Awards, history, and impact
Since the program began, FMC has distributed more than $510,000 in educational scholarships to nearly 500 graduating high school students (over 485 recipients). The scholarship program reflects FMC’s commitment to the communities it serves and its goal of helping young athletes develop both athletically and personally. Keeping participation costs affordable, providing development-focused programming, and helping to offset the expenses of higher education are key parts of that mission.
