Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by University of Alabama
Each spring, The University of Alabama names one incoming freshman as a Coca‑Cola First Generation Scholar. Candidates are chosen through a competitive interview held during their senior year of high school. This award is limited to incoming, first‑year students who are Alabama residents.
Renewal
- The scholarship can be renewed for up to four years provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Eligibility
Applicants for the Coca‑Cola First Generation Scholarship must meet all of the following:
- Be a first‑generation college student: neither parent has more than two years of post‑secondary (after high school) education, and neither parent holds a post‑secondary degree.
- Be a resident of Alabama.
- Have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.
- Demonstrate financial need.
How to apply (high school seniors)
1. Submit the UA Scholarship Application by January 15. On that application, indicate interest in the university’s first‑generation scholarship programs and answer the attached first‑generation essay questions.
2. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.
3. Take part in an interview with the Selection Panel during the spring semester.
Requirements for selected scholars
Recipients of the Coca‑Cola First Generation Scholarship are expected to:
- Register for a designated general studies course in the fall term.
- Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
- Attend and participate in all required program activities, events, and service projects.
- Meet regularly with the First Generation Scholarships program manager.
