El Futuro Scholarship Program

Overview
Since its founding, the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation (SACHCC Foundation), the workforce development arm of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SACHCC), has invested in the future leaders and workforce of the region by providing financial assistance to Latino/a students. To date, the Foundation has distributed more than $665,000 in scholarships to recent high school graduates and current college students throughout the Sacramento area.
2025 Awards
The 2025 El Futuro Scholarship Program will provide three awards of $1,000 each.
General Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following at the time they apply:
- Be a recent high school graduate from an eligible high school, or be currently enrolled in at least 6 units at a California community college, or be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units at a college or university.
- Identify as Hispanic/Latino/a.
- Reside in the Sacramento six-county region: Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Sutter, Yolo, or Yuba counties.
Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. Leadership Award Eligibility
Applicants for the Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. Leadership Scholarship must meet these minimum requirements at the time of application:
- Identify as Hispanic/Latino/a.
- Live in one of the Sacramento six-county region counties: Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Sutter, Yolo, or Yuba.
- Be enrolled in a four-year college or university or a California community college with at least 12 units, or be enrolled in a graduate program at a university.
Application Checklist
Please include the following materials with your application:
- Scholarship selection: Indicate whether you are applying for the El Futuro Scholarship or the Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. Leadership Scholarship.
- Contact information: Full name, mailing address, email, and phone number. If you or your family are members of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber, include the business name.
- Personal statement: Describe your educational background and career objectives. Explain how receiving this scholarship would support your goals. If applying for the Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. Leadership Scholarship, provide concrete examples of your leadership experience.
- Community involvement/service: Detail your current and past community, high school, and college service activities (including volunteer work). Explain how these experiences have affected you.
- Financial need: Explain your financial circumstances and how you are funding your college education.
- Transcripts: Attach an unofficial copy of your high school and/or college transcript(s).
- Letter of recommendation: Provide one letter that assesses your academic potential, public service, financial need, leadership experience, and other qualities that demonstrate your potential for future success.
