Overview
SEFF is awarding over $30,000 in scholarships to support the next step for high school seniors and first-year apprentices. There are fifteen $1,500 STEM scholarships and ten $1,000 trade school scholarships available.
STEM Scholarships — 15 awards of $1,500
Eligibility and requirements:
- Current high school senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a STEM career.
- Financial need will be taken into account.
- Intend to attend an accredited U.S. two- or four-year college or university full time.
- Applicant must reside in one of these states: CA, AZ, NV, OR, or WA.
- Planned major must be one of the following:
- Computer Science
- Engineering (electrical, mechanical, industrial, environmental, power and/or energy)
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Required recommendations: one letter from a teacher and one letter from a school counselor.
Trade School Scholarships — 10 awards of $1,000
Eligibility and requirements:
- High school senior with a minimum 2.0 GPA, or a first-year apprentice.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career through trade school training.
- Financial need will be considered.
- Applicant must reside in CA, AZ, NV, OR, or WA.
- Planned enrollment in a trade program in one of the following areas:
- Automotive
- Carpentry
- Commercial/Specialized Driver’s License
- Electrical
- HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning)
- Welding
- Plumbing/Pipefitting
Personal Statement (required for all applicants)
Write a personal statement (required) that introduces you, outlines your educational and career goals, and describes any relevant experience you already have. Suggested topics to address (not exhaustive):
- Whether you are the first in your family or generation to attend college or trade school.
- Hobbies, interests, and extracurricular activities.
- How you have dealt with adversity and lessons learned.
- Any other information that helps SEFF understand who you are and your motivations.
Statement format: maximum two pages (single-sided), double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font.
Letters of recommendation and selection
- STEM applicants must submit one teacher and one school counselor letter.
- Selection of recipients will consider academic record, involvement in school and community activities, the personal statement, and letters of recommendation (two letters are part of the evaluation). Trade applicants are encouraged to provide letters of recommendation to support their application.
