Intro
This scholarship supports United States citizens pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a four-year historically Black college or university (HBCU) in the U.S. Below are the eligibility requirements, application materials, award information, and deadlines.
Eligibility
- U.S. citizens, age 17–25.
- Admitted to or currently enrolled at an accredited, four-year HBCU in the United States.
- Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Must be a full-time student working toward a bachelor’s degree.
Required documentation
- Official academic transcript(s) from high school or from an accredited four-year college/university.
- Three letters of reference, including at least one academic referee; letters should speak to the applicant’s character, leadership, and scholastic ability.
- A 500-word essay addressing: “What is the importance of participating in political and social change processes?”
- A fully completed application form.
Additional program details
- There are no restrictions by major or field of study.
- Scholarship proceeds must be applied to tuition, mandatory fees, and/or required textbooks.
- Awards are one-time grants and are not renewable.
Awards and disbursement
- At minimum, two (2) one-time scholarships of $2,000 each will be granted every year.
- Award checks will be sent directly to the recipient’s institution.
Key dates
- Application window: October 30 through April 30. All materials must be received by April 30.
- Award notifications: Selected recipients will be informed in writing by May 31.
- Disbursement to institutions: On or before August 1.
