Eligibility & Preferences

Applicants must meet academic and career-related criteria to qualify for the scholarship. The program targets students who are enrolled in or plan to enroll in accredited criminal justice or related programs and who demonstrate an intent to enter or advance in the criminal justice field. A minimum grade point average of 2.5 is required. Preference is given to applicants with direct ties to law enforcement or OACP membership.

Eligibility: Enrollment or intent to enroll in an accredited criminal justice or related program; minimum GPA of 2.5; and plan to enter or currently serve in law enforcement or another criminal justice role and seek advancement.

Preference Points: Preference is awarded to applicants entering or currently in law enforcement, immediate family members of an Oregon police officer killed or disabled in the line of duty, and dependents of OACP members.

Application Process

Complete the current online scholarship application and provide all required supporting materials. All applicants must use the application form marked with "2022.1" in the lower left corner. Required materials include a completed application, a 300-word biography describing your career plan, a letter of recommendation from an instructor or counselor, and the signature of a local police chief confirming eligibility. After assembling the packet, mail the completed application and attachments to the OACP address below.

Review & Awarding

Applications must be received in the OACP offices by the December due date to be considered. The OACP Scholarship Committee reviews submissions in January or early February and awards scholarships based on available funds and the competitive evaluation. Selected applicants and their institution's financial aid office will be notified, and scholarship funds will be sent directly to the recipient's financial aid office.
