Mainely Character Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Mainely Character
Overview
This scholarship recognizes Maine high school seniors who exemplify outstanding personal character. Below are the eligibility rules, the specific character qualities we evaluate, and guidance for completing your application.
Eligibility
You are eligible to apply if all of the following are true:
- You are a resident of Maine.
- You are graduating from high school in the same calendar year you submit your application.
- Your high school is located in Maine (students enrolled in out-of-state high schools are not eligible).
- You plan to enroll at an accredited post-secondary school after high school. If you intend to take a gap year, you must still apply during your senior year and have already made a firm commitment to attend a post-secondary institution after the gap year.
Selection criteria — the four core character qualities
Mainely Character Scholarships are awarded to applicants who most clearly demonstrate excellence in these four character areas:
- Concern: Showing empathy and a genuine caring attitude toward other people.
- Responsibility: Acting with dedication and following through on commitments.
- Integrity: Being honest and dependable with yourself and others.
- Courage: Continuing to pursue important goals despite hardship, fear, or adversity.
Application guidance
Avoid vague or generic descriptions of character. This application is your chance to describe, in your own voice, how you personally embody these qualities. Use specific examples and concrete actions to show who you are.
