Overview
The Aero Club of New England launched its scholarship initiative in 1984 to support and encourage careers in professional aviation. Since 1987 the program has provided awards to men and women, with total scholarship funding exceeding $700,000. Recipients are chosen on the basis of merit, demonstrated performance, and documented financial need.
Eligibility requirements
To qualify for this scholarship an applicant must:
- Plan to pursue a professional career in aviation maintenance.
- Demonstrate financial need and meet the qualifications for the award.
- Begin training at an FAA‑approved FAR Part 147 school located in New England.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
- Reside in one of the New England states.
- Be at least 16 years old at the time of application.
- Use the scholarship funds within one year of award.
Selection criteria
Applications are evaluated using the following factors:
- Financial need.
- Evidence of the applicant’s ability to achieve their stated aviation goals, as supported by academic records and letters of recommendation.
- Involvement in aviation maintenance and related activities—such as flying, model building, science projects, aviation employment, and similar pursuits—described in the personal statement and recommendations.
